TELEGRAPH
It owes its name to Professor J P Delagoutte from Nancy who looking at an X ray photograph, found it looked like a telegraph post.

 What is it ?

The TELEGRAPH® nail is designed, in its short version, to treat 2, 3 and 4 part proximal humerus fractures, and in its long version, diaphyseal fractures and associated diaphyseal and proximal fractures.
For these conditions, it provides a method of achieving osteosynthesis which is accurate, reliable and easy to use. In many cases, it can provide a useful alternative to a shoulder prosthesis.

Advantages

The positioning of the proximal screw holes allows for solid fixation of nume-rous bone fragments, for example the greater and lesser tuberosities and the humeral head. This is made easier by a patented system which makes the screws self-stabilizing.
Where there is large displacement, reconstruction of the proximal part of the humerus is based on the nail, which acts as a stake; this is the ball-and-socket technique.

Using a simple ancillary device, the repositioned bone fragments are fixed with perfect accuracy.
The use of the TELEGRAPH® Nail provides some decisive advantages :

it facilitates anatomical reduction of the fracture
it is used for proximal reconstruction of the humerus
it ensures rapid consolidation
it allows early mobilization
in many cases, it provides an alternative to a shoulder prosthesis.
